As part of their effort under the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS), Castrol has re-named a number of their heritage product lines. We're updating our site to show the cross-walk to the new names.
GHS was designed to replace the various hazard classification systems used in different countries. GHS promotes a common infrastructure for classifying Physical, Health, and Environmental hazards, and for communicating those hazards in standardized symbols, signal words, and hazard statements.
Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are now called Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and they follow a standardized format for content. The United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has a Hazard Communication site with more details
While other countries have been adopting GHS since 2008, the United States published the final GHS implementing rule on March 26, 2012. The final rule requires product manufacturers to adopt the standard by June 1, 2015 and product distributors to adopt the standard by December 1, 2015. Workers must be trained by December 1, 2013.
